Biography

Siobhán Daffy developed an interest in world music while travelling in Egypt, India and Australia in 1996-7. She has been playing and learning since. She has studied with a variety of teachers in Ireland, U.K. and West Africa. In January 2002, thanks to the support of the Arts Council, Siobhán travelled to Ghana to study with Kake Dance Ensemble in Accra. She spent six weeks learning Ghanaian dance, songs and percussion pieces. This experience has fuelled her enthusiasm to bring the African Spirit to Ireland through music.

For the past four years, Siobhán has been running music workshops in Galway and Dublin.
Her experience ranges from weekly classes in several schools for special needs in Galway, to Primary and Secondary schools accross Dublin.
She has facilitated sessions with groups such as: Womans Aid, Youth Reach, Focus Ireland to name but a few.

Siobhán has been actively involved in summer projects, Arts Festivals, world music events, parades and performances in different parts of Ireland. Siobhán is an experienced facilitator with fluent French and German. She places a great emphasis on the power of working together as a group and the transformative potential of music.
Music in this context is used as a healing tool, as an aid to personal, social and creative development.
